“Insanity is knowing that what you’re doing is completely idiotic, but still, somehow, you just can’t stop it.”~ Elizabeth Wurtzel

I don’t suppose anyone else is going to come out and say this, so I guess that I will.

The hashtag, a symbol used most commonly with the social networking site of Twitter.

However this little bugger has crawled across the fiber optic wires throughout the rest of the world of the Internet and has plugged its unusual and ugly face on to other social networking sites like Facebook.

And honestly I have to question your motives as to why??? Do you even know what you are doing with the hashtag?

Twitter’s Help Center page describes the usage of the hashtag as the following:

  • People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.
  • Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
  • Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet – at the beginning, middle, or end.
  • Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.

So it does have a use. But ONLY on Twitter.

There was a time not that long ago where Facebook and Twitter could be linked together and whatever posts that you put on Facebook would appear on your Twitter feed, and vice versa.

I’ve seen that all too often. And as sad as it seems, that’s just the way it is as people did believe it to be a good time saver at that moment so they didn’t have to keep writing the same thing over and over again as they logged into these various social networking sites.

Now whenever I am logged onto Facebook and I see hashtags, I look to see if the original post came from a person’s Twitter feed.

The last straw was that I just read a quick e-mail. AN E-MAIL that had a hashtagged emotion to it.

It just makes a person look uneducated, or perhaps they have fallen victim to the typo and they refused to correct it.

Now its done ON PURPOSE outside of Twitter where it really belongs!!

How #smart #do #you #think #this #looks #when #you #read #it?

#seewhatididthere??

Now people are using the hashtag for an expression of feelings, emotions, and actions. Verbs and adjectives. Come ON!! Obviously you have been doing this for too long that you forgot the original intent and purpose that Twitter created the hashtag for!

I’m REAL close to being “that guy” when it comes to the hashtag to inform the person who is using it incorrectly. I’m telling you, that’s going to stir a lot of pots of shit when the next person that does it and does it incorrectly.

If you want to use Twitter then that’s perfectly fine. I personally choose not to use it as it limits you to a certain amount of characters to add to your feed. As I understand that there is a character limtation, I don’t really bother with abbreviated phrases and what not. But why is the hashtag on Facebook when someone is intentionally writing it on their profiles?

Secondly, I recently found that my own account was compromised. By the time I figured that out, I just didn’t care any more so I’ve not bothered with it. But I have nothing against people that actually continue to use Twitter.

Just keep Twitter in Twitter.

STOP THE HASHTAG MANIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
